Once construction started, some of out neighbors who had just had houses built by other builders remarked about the difference between your construction practices and their builders’ practices.  They noticed that you visited the site at least once every day.  They noticed that the work kept moving, never stopping for long periods of time.  We also visited the site at least once a week and we appreciated the fact that you were always responsive to our observations and question.  Of course, there were things we wanted changed along the way and you were also very cooperative in getting those done.

Your attention to detail and excellence went well beyond our expectations.  It was comforting for us being so far away to know that you were paying attention to the details and demanding that every job be done to perfection.  Every subcontractor we talked to told us the same thing: they have two work modes, the regular way and the Derek way.  They all confirmed what we already knew; that you’re the best and most demanding builder on the lake.

We just wanted to let you know how proud we are of our new house!  It will still take a while to really settle in since we only have weekends to work on it, but every week that goes by, we feel more and more comfortable with it.  It’s beginning to really feel like home now.

Have you contracted with Derek to build for you?  Wow! He really did a great job for us.  I’m just SO glad we found him.  He noticed small things at the walk-through that needed to be “corrected” that WE didn’t even notice!  It’s so hard to believe that someone can enjoy his job and be so gosh-darn GOOD at it, after working with so many who don’t care how well they do their job in this area.  Very refreshing.

Of course when it came time for us to actually build our new home and we provided that most exacting builder at Lake Anna (you Derek) with a pencil sketch on the back of a napkin with our proposed thoughts, you naturally did not panic or bust our laughing --- no, you simply took us in hand and guided our beginning thought thru and too the final 8000 + sq. ft. “ultimate family abode” we now so proudly show our family and friends almost every weekend.  Your sincere and honest coaching, knowledgeable technical recommendations from years of building at the lake, always positive guidance and just plain good old “common sense” kept us on time and on budget with the outstanding results we can be proud of with generation’s of little Fox’s to come…J

"When Brenda and I were ready to start building on our lot in Cat’s Paw Cove, I contacted the real estate agent who helped us buy the lot.  I asked for some builders she would recommend since I learned to value her opinion.  Surprisingly, her response was that there was only one she would recommend.  Derek Dequaine.  And she insisted there was no one better that built homes around Lake Anna.

When I learned that neighbors in Cat’s Paw had their house built by Derek Dequaine, I contacted them by phone.  The wife answered.  I asked for a reference for Lake Country Homes and the response was “Oh, we absolutely love Derek.  He is wonderful to work with.  We love the home he built for us.”

Now that our home is finished and Brenda and I have been living in it for about 4 months, I can fully understand the real estate agent’s and my neighbor’s opinion of Derek Dequaine.  And we agree with them!

So I want to thank you in writing.  I also want to make myself available to you if you need a reference for a future customer.  Brenda and I love the home you built for us.

But even more -- we were so impressed by the way you worked with us on the lengthy and very detailed design process.   And though we were 1200 miles away living in Nebraska at the time and could only visit the work site perhaps once a month at most, we felt you were taking care of us in our absence.  You came up with suggestions about things we had never considered.  You routinely sent pictures of the work in progress.  You were always reachable when we wanted to talk to you and responsive when we needed things.  In fact, you stayed in very close contact throughout the whole process.  Your estimates of costs were on target.  The workmanship on the house was excellent.  You delivered the house to us early.  And the only surprise was how nice the house turned out.

If someone asked for a reference, we would say something like “Oh, we absolutely love Derek.  He is wonderful to work with.  We love the house he built for us.”
